SUMMARY:Christian McBride And Tip City
DESCRIPTION:“Christian McBride [was] steamrollering the audience of a fair-sized marquee into a state of near ecstasy.”\n-FINANCIAL TIMES \n“One of the premier musicians of his generation… “\n— DownBeat \n“McBride never disappoints”\n– JazzTimes \nFive-time GRAMMY®-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride can be likened to a force of nature\, fusing the fire and fury of a virtuoso with the depth and grounding of a seasoned journeyman. With relentless energy and a boundless love of swing\, McBride’s path has taken a continuous positive arc. With a career now blazing into its third decade\, the Philadelphia native has become one of the most requested\, most recorded\, and most respected figures in the music world today. \nChristian McBride brings that same breadth of experience to bear as Artistic Advisor for Jazz Programming at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC)\, and in his appointment in 2015 as incoming Artistic Director for Newport Jazz Festival. He also  hosts and produces “The Lowdown: Conversations With Christian” on SiriusXM satellite radio and National Public Radio’s “Jazz Night in America”. \nCompleting the circle is his work with Jazz House Kids\, the nationally recognized community arts organization founded by his wife\, vocalist Melissa Walker.  Exclusively dedicated to educating children through jazz\, the “Jazz House” concept brings internationally renowned jazz performers to teach alongside a professional staff\, offering students a wide range of creative programming that develops musical potential\, enhances leadership skills\, and strengthens academic performance. This shared celebration of America’s original musical art form cultivates tomorrow’s community leaders and global citizens while preserving its rich legacy for future generations. \nThis resonates beautifully for True Blue Jazz Fans & supporters. Having Christian McBride And Tip City here for our Festival really does bring the True Blue Jazz message & mission home to us. “Preservation Through Performance”\, as well as that of our Youth Jazz Initiative does “complete the circle” for Christian McBride & for True Blue Jazz\, as Christian is joined on stage in his Trio by former Jazz House Kids “alum”\, Emmett Cohen on piano…and by young Jazz Guitarist\, Dan Wilson. \nEmmet is making his own mark Touring\, doing clubs & festival dates with his own group. He is a rapidly rising star on the Jazz Scene.  Possessing a fluid technique\, an innovative tonal palette\, and an expansive repertoire\, Cohen plays with the command of a seasoned veteran and the passion of an artist fully devoted to his medium. \nDan has made quite a mark on the local jazz scene in a relatively short time.  A regular with Joey DeFrancesco\, Dan comes form that lineage of George Benson\, Pat Martino\, Kenny Burrell school. Christian McBride says of Dan Wilson…”He’s got such great technique with great ideas and he swings real hard” \nTip City is a nod to the Jazz Trios that have haunted the great Jazz Clubs from coast to coast. The Jazz Cats of yesterday are smilin’ large as Christian leads this Trio\, pointing the way for these two talented next generation sidemen\, as they venture into parts yet to be charted in the world of Jazz & Bebop. Christian McBride And Tip City will leave no musical debts unpaid\, as they pay it forward\, carrying on the enduring tradition of American Jazz. With a jazz luminary like Christian McBride leading Tip City\, there’s no doubt this will be a concert to be remembered\, & talked about for years to come! \nJoin True Blue Jazz as we welcome Christian McBride And Tip City to our Stage in their only appearance in Delaware\, or the Peninsula\, to date. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW! Get your Tickets NOW!!!!

SUMMARY:Smokin' RED HOT Fire House Jazz
DESCRIPTION:Hammond B3 Jazz Organist\, Bill Dilks –  “One thing I’ve found over the years\, and why I always use “Hammond” and “B3” (whenever I’m promoting one of my shows)…it’s more and more of a rarity\, and those words help sell it.  It sells the fact that “this is not a keyboard stack emulation\, it’s the real deal”. And the knowing folks who see “Hammond” or “B3” usually think “smokin'”\, along with “rare”\, and the “B3” jazz imparts the “this is not your every day run-of-the-mill jazz” that doesn’t go too far outside.” \nTRUE BLUE JAZZ PRESENTS SMOKING’ RED HOT FIRE HOUSE JAZZ WITH THE “B3” BILL DILKS ORGAN TRIO \nThe “B3” Bill Dilks Trio featuring Vince Lardear on Alto Sax\, Jackie Browne on Drums will be setting’ the room ablaze with their Smokin’ RED HOT Organ Trio. SUMMARY:The Paul Carr Quartet featuring Jamie Davis
DESCRIPTION:“…Jamie Davis is one of my favorite singers.”\n– Clint Eastwood\, inspired by his performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival \n“A proper singer of real talent and style. He can sing blues and ballads to the manner born and boy\, does he swing. A must for any lovers of great music.”\n-Sir Michael Parkinson – BBC and iTV Broadcaster\, Journalist\, British Chat Show Host. \n“Paul Carr plumbs post-bop in his debut with a tart tone that darts and swings on neck-breaking tempos\, yet turns deliciously dynamic on ballads…”\n–USA Today (3 Stars) \nGrowing up in Texas\, Paul Carr studied and played with local heroes including saxophonist Don Wilkerson\, the fabled educator Conrad Johnson\, and the legendary Arnett Cobb. He studied on a full scholarship at Texas Southern University and completed his degree in music performance at Howard University in Washington\, DC.  Paul has since been a fixture in the DC area performing on the local scene at venues including Blues Alley\, Twins Jazz\, Takoma Station\, and the now-defunct (but once vibrant) One Step Down. Carr has been a repeat performer at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts\, the Smithsonian Jazz Café\, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s jazz series. Known for his hard-charging and soulful post-bop style\, saxophonist Paul Carr upholds an important tradition as a performing Artist\, as a Music Educator and Excutive Director for the Jazz Academy of Music\, and as Artistic Director for Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival. Paul & his Quartet will delve further into the Jazz Standards\, Ballads\, & Jump Blues catalogue that has proven to be a crowd pleaser for them\, along with their featured West Coast based Vocalist\, Mr. Jamie Davis. \nSinger Jamie Davis holds a position amongst the pantheon of great male vocalists with a compelling full deep\, baritone voice and passion for his craft that leaves his audiences uplifted and “feelin’ good… really good”.  With a voice poured from the same mold that brought us Billy Eckstine\, Johnny Hartman & Lou Rawls….a move to San Francisco created opportunities for Jamie Davis to perform with Milt Jackson\, Eddie Henderson\, Melba Moore and Pharaoh Saunders. The year 2000 brought exhilarating performances with The Count Basie Orchestra. On that experience Davis reflects\, “Having all that sound behind you is just amazing. You’ve got to ride that current.”  A repertoire from Cole Porter to Stevie Wonder to Charles Mingus\, confirms he possesses the flexibility and sexy sophistication by his effortless delivery to stand with any of the great masters. Jamie Davis has been described as a fine wine which has stood the test of time\, constantly innovating jazz classics\, ‘rolling out’ the blues and performing with one foot in the past and the other in ‘today’.

SUMMARY:2017 True Blue Jazz Student Workshop/Clinic
DESCRIPTION:“I’ve watched the True Blue Jazz organization inspire\, encourage and support my students throughout that time. The opportunities and experiences provided by True Blue Jazz have stimulated a life-long love for jazz in the students at Cape and encouraged them to seek personal artistic growth through music. Thank you for everything you do for the students of Cape Henlopen High School and our community as a whole. The Cape Region is a better\, more vibrant place because of True Blue Jazz.”\n– Chris Burkhart / Cape Henlopen HS Music Director \nOur commitment and efforts for Young Student Jazz Musicians is our favorite aspect of True Blue Jazz\, and a priority for us. We continue that as an annual staple of True Blue Jazz Events & Programs. Our 2017 Jazz Workshop/Clinic will be conducted by our FridayNight Headliner Artist & Act – The Paul Carr Quartet.\nPaul Carr is President & Executive Director of The Jazz Academy of Music in Silver Spring\, MD. Paul Carr also holds the distinction of being the Executive & Artistic Director of the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival\, held annually in Rockville\, MD.  Mr. Carr serves as the Conductor for both the Mid-Atlantic Youth & the Collegiate Orchestras. \nThis Event is closed to the Public…open only to Students\, Parents\, & Music Educators.

But the focus of the evening is on  the Kids! You’ll hear the Jazz Players of tomorrow play rehearsed material\, and will even have the Pros & Music Directors work them through an impromptu Jazz Jam. \nPeggy Raley & Eddie Sherman will Host this new twist on the old “Band Boosters” concept. Food & Beverages will be available through Bethany Blues Restaurant. A percentage of proceeds from wil be donated to True Blue Jazz.  So….C’mon out & support your Schools’ Youngbloods of Straight Ahead Jazz & 2017’s True Blue Jazz Fest!
