International Jazz Day Celebration Concert from True Blue Jazz
Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$35In 2016, True Blue Jazz… the independent, straight-ahead Jazz Festival, was chosen to be an official partner with International Jazz Day and The Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. To celebrate their 8th Annual offering for IJD, True Blue Jazz will present a concert to bring the award-winning Brazilian band, MINAS, to the Cape region for International Jazz Day weekend with a concert at Nassau Valley Vineyards on April 27th. The concert will feature The Cape Henlopen HS Jazz Combo as the opening act.
MINAS is the creation of husband-and-wife musical team, Brazilian, Orlando Haddad and American, Patricia King. Brazilian guitar and jazz piano, male and female vocals, English and Portuguese poetry, a repertoire of classic Brazilian Bossa and Samba with an impressive array of original music and four decades of performance history accompanied by some of Philadelphia’s finest musicians on drums, bass and saxophone, MINAS is a show you don’t want to miss.
They formed MINAS in 1978, and have performed all over the eastern United States before moving to Brazil, where they lived, entertained and traveled, absorbing the essence of Brazilian culture. In 1984 Orlando and Patricia returned to the United States and raised a family while performing and recording extensively, building their reputation as one of the most sought-after Brazilian groups of its kind. Multi-talented as composers, vocalists and instrumentalists, and equally comfortable in Brazilian festive music and jazz, folk and classical genres, Minas’ various performance styles have placed them in front of every kind of audience and venue. The True Blue Jazz show will feature the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cole Porter and original compositions. To learn more about the band, visit their website at www.minasmusic.com
The concert will be held in Grand Cru Hall at Nassau Valley Vineyards. It is located at 32130 Winery Way in Lewes. Doors open at 6:30 with full bar service available. The concert starts at 7:00pm. Nassau Valley Vineyards is fully handicap accessible and has ample free parking.
